Up the Air

Up the Air

Shooting with Rebecca Hart Franklin was wonderful! A professional model and actor with a great presence. This is one of my favorite shots we captured that day and it was on a whim of “Eh, let’s do some hair flips.”

Abandoned Bus

Abandoned Bus

For our shoot Rebecca wanted to find a place with some character. I brought her to an abandoned train station that had a broken down bus in front of it filled with graffiti and missing windows. Settings are just as much a subject as whomever is the focus of the picture.

Highlights

Highlights

Some shots can benefit from doing things outside of the rules. Highlights are usually clipped with properly weighted exposure, however, sometimes doing the opposite can add some interesting effects to the shot.

Graffiti Alley

Graffiti Alley

Another gorgeous location is Graffiti Alley in Baltimore City. It’s an alley that has, well, graffiti everywhere. The colors are beautiful and some of the artwork is incredible looking.

Redness

Redness

This was a toss up of doing this in black and white, changing the hue (which I’m not a huge fan of), or just enjoying the richness of all the red contrasting with Rebecca. I went with keeping the color as is and enjoy how it turned out.

Husband & Wife

Husband & Wife

The first wedding I shot and it was for Jackie and Bryce. The lighting was amazing, everyone was joyful and it was a lot of fun. This is the couple leaving the front right after becoming husband and wife.

I Do

I Do

My friend Kellie-Lea Horris was officiating and asked if I would be interested in shooting the wedding. I was nervous as I had never done one before but there always has to be a first. So, I researched best practices for a one-photographer wedding and made sure I had all my equipment charged, cleaned, tested, and ready to go. I think the pictures turned out well and the couple was very happy with their pictures.

Luckily for me, Jackie’s wedding was at her house and their house was in the Maryland countryside. The sun and surroundings couldn’t have been better for their day.

Cheers

The groomsmen had an impromptu toast before the ceremony. This is why it’s important to be ready, on site, and pay attention.

Frozen Coat

Frozen Coat

My friend, wonderful actor, and amazing photogenic fella, Michael Anderson asked if I would be interested in doing a photoshoot for him. Of course! So, we set up the day and met out near the Loch Raven Reservoir to get some interesting shots. One of them was another “Let’s try this...” experiments. Michael used my wool pea coat and flung it over his shoulder and here we are.

Headshot

Headshot

I was also able to take some headshots for Michael to use in his acting career and can’t stress enough the benefit of really interesting, non-distracting backgrounds.

Holi Blue

Holi Blue

Michael, as well as being an actor, is a martial artist and wanted to utilize some holi powder for the shoot. Neither of us had ever done this before. But we decided that there’s no time like the present and gave it shot. This is literally the first or second picture either of us ever did with the holi powder and Michael looks like a legit ninja.

Oof

Oof

Ok, this one is technically an outtake but I absolutely love it. I asked Michael to fill his hands with the powders and throw it against his chest, it may make a cool effect. It did. But, it also made it appear as though someone shot a colorful cannon ball at his chest. Still, looks cool.

Practice

Practice

My friend asked me to some and take some pictures for her talk at NACA in Boston. So, I did. Rehearsing before a big speech or talk is a must. It helps you take in the area, feel the stage, be aware of the whole environment. This is rehearsal and prep and for NACA Nationals.

Sit with Us

Prior to her own rehearsal, Rain was sitting in the chairs which would soon hold hundreds and hundreds of people to here her speak. During that moment I noticed her shirt and the empty chairs around her. The invitation is open.
